Adiantum sp. nova (Mexican Maidenhair Fern)

Pteridaceae

A new, undescribed species that John and Carl collected in northeastern Mexico! Looks similar to the common Adiantum capilli-veneris but gets much larger (to 4’ tall when happy) and the most tell-tale difference is the unique pattern of sori on the undersides of the pinnae. Dies to the ground in colder winters for us but vigorously emerges in spring with hot pink new growth!
