A decidious understory tree collected by John Fairey in Mexico. During most of the year, the leaves of this 20 foot tree densely cover the canopy and provide an umbrella of shade for those that stand beneath it. If you've ever taken a tour of our Garden, you have almost certainly stopped beneath this tree during a tour stop, next to the Gallery. In late summer and early fall, long green bracts containing seeds dangle from the tips of branches, adding some interesting texture to the underside of the canopy. This tree is rare in cultivation, but performs exceptionally well through our intense Texas summers, and pushes through our winters without issue. Plant in part sun. Drought tolerant once established.
