Scarlet Pea – This adorable herbaceous groundcover is native to the open plains of the southeastern United States. Scarlet Pea is named for its coral colored pea-flowers that cover the tops of the plant from late spring through mid fall, and are a fantastic food source for native pollinators. The foliage of Scarlet Pea is delicate and almost fern-like, giving it a very airy and whimsical appearance in the landscape. Over time, the stems will create runners and form a mat about 2-3 feet wide. Scarlet Pea works well as a groundcover, hanging over pots or retention walls, or as a garden border. Plant in full to part sun and in well-draining soil. Scarlet Pea is reliably drought tolerant but performs best when irrigated during the hot summer months.
