Pinus tecunumanii

Tecunumanii Pine

Tecunumanii Pine – A beautiful pine native to southern Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala. This tree can grow upwards of 150 feet at maturity, although it will likely be shorter than that in our climate due to our winter temperatures. As it ages, the bark takes on a rusty red-orange hue which sometimes becomes fissured, but typically is lightly flaky. The needles are green with a light blue tint, adding a gentle pop of color to the landscape, and constrasting attractively with the warm-toned bark. When planted in full sun, the overall form of this pine is strictly upright on a single trunk, with a small rounded canopy at the top of the tree. This makes it an ideal candidate for smaller yards or those with limited planting space. Plant in full sun and in well-draining soil. Although it should be drought resistant once established, we recommend regularly watering this tree for its first two years in the ground.
