Quercus sartorii

This seems to be a large leafed form Quercus sartorii, an attractive deciduous oak native to northeastern Mexico. Growing up to 3-40 feet tall at maturity, this oak grows upright on a single trunk before opening its branches wide to create a dense, rounded shape. The foliage is bright green for most of the year, but in late fall it turns to a deep wine-red before falling to the ground. This oak is reliably drought tolerant and cold hardy, and actually grows extremely well in an overgrown and uncultivated section of our property. Plant in full sun and in well-draining soil.
