Belize Sage – This tropical perennial is native to Central America and is sure to brighten up shady parts of your yard. From early summer to mid fall, the Belize Sage reliably produces large, bright red sage flowers that seem to be greatly appreciated by all sorts of pollinators. These vivid blooms pop especially well against the backdrop of dark green foliage and purple stems, making it a truly unique ornamental perennial. The Belize Sage has proven to be cold tolerant in some of our most mild winters, but unfortunately is likely to die at temperatures under 20 degrees Fahrenheit. For this reason, we recommend either planting it in an extremely well protected area of your yard and covering it with frost blankets in winter, or restricting it to being a container plant that can be moved indoors during frosts. Regardless of where you choose to plant it, this sage needs shade with dappled light or early morning sun. Any more light than that will result in crispy leaves and a dead plant. Plant in well-draining soil and irrigate regularly.
