Emerald Jade Maple – A truly covert speciman, as this tree has none of the more well-known characteristics of a maple! The leaves are simple and glossy, lacking the trademark lobes of a typical maple, but that doesn't stop it from being a showstopper in our garden. In mid spring, the emerging new growth is lipstick-red and striking against the old season's emerald green. In late summer, the wings of the samaras (botanical term for maple seeds) turn red, giving the illusion of hundreds of vibrant butterflies resting on the branches. For whatever reason, this tree is rare in cultivation and difficult to find at retail nurseries, but we always have it in stock!
