Starting in the late 1980s, John Fairey and Carl Schoenfeld made over 100 botanizing trips to remote regions of Mexico to document and conserve rapidly vanishing, uniquely diversified plants. John and Carl propagated the species they collected and introduced them, as well as other unusual plants, into the garden. They started the renowned Yucca Do Nursery to share those plants with the public, influencing garden design in Texas and beyond. To honor that legacy, we have created the John Gaston Fairey Signature Plant Collection, a selection of plants that are either associated with our Garden, or that John and Carl collected in Mexico. We have a greenhouse at The John Fairey Garden Nursery dedicated to our Signature Collection where one can find a host of plants, many not typically found in local nurseries. Additionally, most of these plants are cold hardy and drought tolerant. The Signature Collection greenhouse is open Tuesday – Saturday, 9 – 3.
We are excited to announce that we are offering mail-order seeds as an extension of our John Fairey Garden Nursery! These seeds have been hand-collected from plants grown at the John Fairey Garden.
To purchase seeds, review the list and email seeds@jfgarden.org with your selection. Each seed packet comes with detailed planting instructions, but you are welcome to contact us if you have any questions about the plant’s requirements. Seeds become available seasonally so the list will be constantly updated throughout the year. Don’t see a plant that you’re interested in on the list? Feel free to contact seeds@jfgarden.org with your inquiry and we will do our best to let you know when it might become available.
