Mexican Buckeye – The perfect addition to a shady garden! Mexican Buckeye is a small (about 10 foot) understory tree with lots to offer. In mid spring, the bare branches are spotted with small pink flowers, giving a similar appearace to our native Redbud trees. However, once the buds have fallen away, they are replaced by unique hanging seed pods, each storing three black glossy seeds. This decidious tree has multiple thin trunks that twist and curve in a very sculptural and aesthetically pleasing way. In late fall, the foliage turns a warm yellow color before going dormant for the winter. While it’s named for the main region it hails from, Mexican Buckeye can be found natively across Texas and New Mexico.
