This hot-pink flowered sage was first collected by John Fairey and Carl Schoenfeld in Tamaulipas, Mexico in 1992. Since then, it has become a Garden favorite on account of its exceptionally vibrant blooms and drought tolerance. Growing up to 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide, ‘San Carlos Festival’ grows quickly and forms a hardy woody base within its first year in the ground. In order to get te best spring flush and summer flowers, we recommend pruning back the old wood in late winter. In late spring, the bold magenta flowers emerge, and will repeatedly bloom until late fall. Plant in full sun or part shade (you will get a denser plant in full sun) and in well-draining soil. It is very drought tolerant, but will need some supplemental irrigation in late summer.
