Acer skutchii

Cloud Forest Sugar Maple – A gorgeous deciuous tree originally collected by John Fairey and Carl Schoenfeld in Mexico in 1990 (and they loved it so much that they made another collection in 1992!). Growing up to 50 feet at maturity, this maple has gorgeous lobed foliage that is bright green for most of the year and turns a beautiful yellow-orange in late fall. The new growth in early fall is a beautiful red-pink color. When planted in full sun, the overall form is dense and oval, providing a beautiful structural form in the landscape. Acer skutchii is listed as Critcally Endangered by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) due to the limited number of populations in its natural habitat, but you can help with its conservation by planting one in your yard today! Plant in full sun and in well-draining soil. Although this tree can be considered drought tolerant, it looks its best when irrigated regularly, and will produce the best fall color when it is well-watered through the summer.
