Agave sp. ‘Funky Toes’ (Funky Toes Agave) at The John Fairey Garden nursery in Hempstead, Texas

Agave sp. ‘Funky Toes’

Funky Toes Agave

An unidentified Agave that John Fairey and Carl Schoenfeld dubbed 'Funky Toes' after collecting it in Mexico. 'Funky Toes' is planted just outside our front office at the Garden and has quickly become a favorite of ours due to its intense blue tint. This agave pups semi-frequently, so you're never in danger of running out of new plants to force onto your friends and family, and has proven itself to be extremely hardy. Like most, this agave is very drought tolerant and appreciates our Texas heat waves, but it has also proven itself to be hardy down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit with no foliar damage. Even when temperatures do dip lower, it grows so quickly in the spring that you can simply saw off the older damaged leaves and forget winter ever even happened. Plant in full sun in well-draining soil.
