Callicarpa americana

American Beautyberry

American Beautyberry – A classic shrub of the American southeast. American Beautyberry is a flowering and fruiting shrub that thrives in part shade and moist soil. In late spring, light pink puffy flowers adorn the branches of this plant, and are replaced by vivid magenta berries in late summer. While not particularly palatable when freshly picked, the berries make for a lovely jam/jelly, often giving it a bright pink color! However, you'll have to compete with the native wildlife if you intend on harvesting these fruits, as they are beloved by many of the local birds, squirrels, and various other animals.
