Damiantia – This sub-shrub is native to the Trans-Pecos region of Texas and is a perfect addition to any native or xeric garden. Only growing up to 1 foot tall, Damiantia showcases short, aromatic foliage that somewhat resembles rosemary, and is somewhat unassuming for most of the year. However, in late spring and early fall, this covert perennial suddenly explodes into a ball of bright yellow aster flowers! These vivid blooms grow densely across the canopy of the plant and act as a landing strip for tired pollinators to rest upon. After about two weeks of blooming, the flowers fall away and are replaced by small dandelion-like seed heads. Thanks to its short stature and love of dry climates, Damiantia is an ideal candidate for xeric gardens, crevice beds, or low maintenance native gardens, and can be easily shoved between cracks when necessary. Plant in full sun and in very well-draining soil.
