Clethra pringlei ‘White Water’

Mexican Summersweet – This beautiful blooming tree was originally collected by John Fairey and Carl Schoenfeld in 1990 in Puerto Purificacion, with a second collection being made in 1992. Multiple trees grown from cuttings collected on those trips still stand proudly in our Garden today! At maturity, Clethra pringlei 'White Water' grows to be up to 50 feet tall with attractive smooth bark and broad leaves. In early summer through early fall, long inflorescences of white flowers cascade down from the canopy and have a very light fragrance. The 'White Water' clone was selected by John and Carl for its particularly long flowers and winter hardiness in Texas. Plant in full sun and in well-draining soil. This tree is drought tolerant but performs best with some supplemental water in the hottest parts of the year.
