Green Sotol – A beautiful woody lily native to the open prairies of Texas and New Mexico. At maturity, Green Sotol is about 4-5 feet tall and 4 feet wide with thin green leaves and serrated margins. In early summer, mature plants produce flower stalks that can reach 20 feet in height, showcasing clusters of tan-yellow flowers. Traditionally, the fibrous leaves of Green Sotol were used by indigenous people for weaving and thatching; today the plant is used to create the alcoholic drink known as sotol. Plant in full sun and in well draining, rocky soil. In its native habitat, Green Sotol would be used to summer rains, so keep it watered during the hottest parts of the year.
