Justicia fulvicoma

Mexican Shrimp Plant – A vibrant herbaceous perennial that is sure to stand out in your yard almost year-round. Growing up to 1-2 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide, the Mexican Shrimp plant is perfect for xeric gardens, large swales of planting, and pollinator gardens! In late spring, bright orange bracts appear on the top of the canopy, which are striking enough on their own thanks to their vivid color. From these bracts, even brighter yellow-orange flowers emerge, which seem to be a favorite food source for our local hummingbirds and butterflies. Although it dies back to the ground in the winter, this plant is extremely cold hardy and will reemerge even after temperatures as low as 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Plant in part sun, preferably with afternoon shade.
