Mexican Honeysuckle – A hardy flowering perennial native to Mexico. Although it acts as a die-back perennial in our climate, areas that have more mild winters will see it form a woody base that keeps it from going completely dormant in the winter. The leaves are a beautiful bright green, and in mid spring the neon orange tubular flowers begin to emerge. These small flowers are heavily favored by the hummingbirds and butterflies, and will remain through late fall. In our Garden, Mexican Honeysuckle typically grows up to 3-4 feet tall and about 3 feet wide when planted in part sun. Although it is reasonably drought tolerant, the plant will promote the most flowers when it is given some supplemental irrigation during the summer.
