Paddle Plant – A flamboyant and unique succulent native to South Africa. If you've ever had the pleasure of viewing our Garden mosaic near the front office by Dixie Friend Gay, you'll notice this plant has a prominent front spot! The thick paddle leaves are a beautiful light blue-silver with tips that turn red depending on the amount of sunlight they are exposed to. Over time, each plant will widen and create many pups so that you are eventually left with a large patch of clonal plants. We have multiple patches planted in the ground in the Garden, but they are only cold hardy to about 30 degrees Fahrenheit, so they are one of the very few plants that get covered with a frost cloth during winter freezes. They also make wonderful container plants! Plant in part sun and in well-draining soil.
