Turks Cap – Are you even Texan if you don't have a Turks Cap in your yard? If you're lacking this quintessential native plant, then we've got you covered. This hardy perennial is best known for its attractive foliage and unique red twisted flowers (which are adored by our native hummingbirds). What many people don't know is that the small red fruits that ripen after blooming season has ended are also edible, and taste like a tart red apple! Turks Cap can be planted in full sun, but looks its best when given some protection from the afternoon sun, otherwise the leaves tend to take on a yellowish hue. Ensure it is well watered through the summer.
