Chir Pine – A showstopping pine tree native to India. This tree can grow anywhere from 50 to 100 feet (although it will likely be on the shorter side in our climate due to our short winter frosts), and grows moderately quickly. As it ages, the bark becomes very chunky with dark gray and orange striations that run along the trunk, making it a fantastic ornamental tree year-round. The needles are bright green and decently long. When planted in full sun, the overall form of the Chir Pine is upright with a spreading, airy canopy. Although we have not yet trialed this tree in the Garden for long periods of time, we are hopefully it will perform well in our hot, humid summers, and our short winter frosts. Plant in full sun and in well-draining soil. Chir Pine is should be watered regularly, especially for its first couple of years in the ground while its root system gets established.
