Hirome Dwarf Cherry – This unique fruiting shrub came to us by way of Heidi Sheeshly, owner of TreeSearch Farms, a wholesale nursery in Houston. While showing us around her display gardens, Heidi brought us over to a beautiful small shrub covered in red fruits, and offered us to taste them. While somewhat tart, the cherries were bite sized and delicious, and we knew we had to bring one back to the garden! At maturity, this Dwarf Cherry variety grows to be 3-4 tall and about 2 feet wide, forming a dense, rounded shape. In early spring, small pale pink flowers cover the bare branches, much like a cherry tree, just smaller. In early summer, hundreds of tiny cherries, can be found nestled in the leaves, making for a perfect afternoon garden snack. What's not to love?
