Quercus fusiformis

Escarpment Live Oak – This large evergreen oak is virtually indistinguishable from its cousin, the Southern Live Oak, but it is much more cold hardy! Growing up to 40 feet and living for hundreds of years, the Escarpement Live Oak is a tried and true Texas native that won’t ever let you down. Depending on the amount of space it is allowed, it will either grow upwards on a single trunks, or outwards with multiple sweeping branches. The leaves are small and semi-evergreen (meaning the new growth emerges as the old leaves are falling, so the branches are never bare) and the tree produces many acorns that are important foraging material for native mammals. Plant in full sun and keep well watered for the first two years. After that it is very drought tolerant!
