Holly Oak – A bizarre Mediterranean oak that many would mistake for a small-leafed holly. In less humid environments, it can reach up to 40 feet in height, but our humidity tends to strunt its growth, so it will likely only reach 15-20 feet in the Houston area. The leaves are small, evergreen, and serrated to a point, so be careful when pruning it because it can definitely scratch up your arms! Plant in full sun and in well-draining, rocky soil. This tree likes to be kept moist through the summer, so we recommend watering it twice a week.
