A blue-toned evergreen oak originally collected by John Fairey and Carl Schoenfeld in the San Carlos Mountains of Mexico in 1991. This oak is often confused with Quercus laceyi (Lacey Oak) on account of its smooth blue foliage, but each tree is still currently recognized as its own independent species. Growing up to 30 feet tall, Quercus porphyrogenita has beautiful textured bark that is sometimes peely, with an orangish undertone. The overall form is short and wide, with a rounded canopy and stretching limbs. Plant in full sun and in well-draining soil.
