Ruellia elegans

False Petunia – A fast growing perennial native to Argentina and Brazil. In late spring, red tubular flowers emerge, which are much loved by the hummingbirds and butterflies, and will remain through late fall. In winter, False Petunia will die back to the ground, but reemerges quickly starting in early April. Over time, the plant spreads and creates a clump typically about 4 feet wide and 3 feet tall. Plant in full or part sun and in moist soil. Our happy clump is planted along a dry creekbed in the garden where all of the irrigation drains, and it is as happy as can be! Keep well watered, especially in summer.
