Dwarf Palmetto – A prehistoric-looking Texas native palm that is widespread in the swamps and pineywoods of east Texas. Dwarf Palmetto has medium sized fan-shaped fronds that typically grow to be about 3 feet wide, with the overall height of the plant usually falling between 3-5 feet tall. These structural fronds are exceptionally cold tolerant, making them a dependable accent plant year-round in your yard. Dwarf Palmetto naturally grows in the understory of larger trees, so it needs to be planted in full or part shade, and in soil that stays relatively moist. It can tolerate stints of drought, although the tips of the fronds might turn brown as a result.
