Salvia chionophylla

Snowflake Sage – An interesting groundcover sage native to the Chihuahuan desert in Coahuila, Mexico. The foliage is small and has a light blue tint, growing on tendril-like stems that spread quickly, growing from 3-6 feet wide within its first year in the ground. In late spring through early fall, small purpleish-blue sage flowers emerge all over the branches, adding a cool pop of color to the landscape. Thanks to its trailing growth habit, the Snowflake Sage is perfect for hanging baskets and containers, or to be planted as a groundcover. In its native habitat, Snowflake Sage routinely faces winter temperatures as low as 10 degrees Fahrenheit, so it has proven to be extremely cold hardy in our climate. Additionally, this fast-growing sage is extremely drought tolerant, although it will look its best when given a little extra irrigation in late summer. Plant in full sun and in well-draining soil.
