Salvia farinacea

Mealy Sage – A fragrant sage native to the limestone hills of central Texas. In late spring, small flower stalks emerge, covered in fuzzy gray-ish buds, which eventually open into a bright purple flower. Both the flower and foliage have are aromatic when touched or crushed, making them valued in many Texas gardens. Small pollinators such as bees and butterflies frequent these bright and yummy flowers, making it a valuable addition to any pollinator garden. Plant in full sun and in well-draining, rocky soil. Sometimes adding a pinch of dolomitic lime can help with the plants overall health, as this will make the soil slightly alkaline. Although reasonably drought tolerant, Mealy Sage performs best when it is regularly watered.
