Cherry Chief Sage – A very drought tolerant woody perennial! This sage cultivar grows to be about 2-3 feet tall and 3 feet wide, with small green leaves that form an airy but rounded canopy. Starting in early summer and ending in mid fall, bright red flowers emerge across the top of this plant, and seem to be well-loved by our native hummingbirds. If left untouched, this woody perennial can get a bit leggy, so we recommend giving it a light pruning in late winter, resulting in a more lush spring growth. Plant in full sun and in very well-draining soil. This sage is reliably drought tolerant, but may need some supplemental watering through the worst parts of summer in order to continue blooming.
