Ohio Spiderwort – A trustworthy herbaceous perennial that is native to much of the United States, including Texas. The blue-green toned foliage appears somewhat lily-like at the base, with long thin leaves. Beginning in late spring, fleshy flower stalks emerge from the center of the plant and are topped with clusters of vibrant blue to purple flowers. These flowers open in the mornings and are always clustered with all types of bees, before closing in the early afternoon through the evening. As time goes on, each plant will grow wider and eventually create a small patch up to 2 feet wide. In order to encourage new growth and repeated blooming, we recommend cutting the flower stalks back in late summer, allowing for a second flush of flowering that will persist through mid fall. Plant in full to part sun and in well-draining soil. Ohio Spiderwort is adaptable to many soil types and conditions, including drought conditions.
