Purple Heart – Okay, we know what you’re thinking, but no, this is not the same Purple Heart that grows like a weed, we promise! This specific form was collected by John Fairey and Carl Schoenfeld in Mexico, and has pure-white flowers that bloom spring through fall. This form is much slower growing than the one that is commonly found in other nurseries, eliminating the risk of it becoming a problem in your yard. However, it does have the same beautiful purple foliage that we all know and love! In fact, when planted in the shade, this Purple Heart takes on a deeper purple color, but when planted in full sun, it gains a bluish-green tone in the center of the leaves. Either way, those colors make the perfect backdrop for the bright white blooms (which would look quite nice in a moon garden). Plant in full or part sun and in well-draining soil. Purple Heart is wonderfully drought tolerant, but we encourage giving it a little extra water in late summer to promote continuous blooming.
