Tradescantia sillamontana

Cobweb Spiderwort – An exciting and wonderfully hardy spiderwort native to northeastern Mexico. The foliage is thick and covered in white hairs that resemble a cobweb, hence the name. Interestingly, when planted in full sun, this foliage tends to take on a purple color, but when planted in part shade it remains a bright green. It grows phenonmenally in both environments, so it’s up to you which color you prefer. Over time, the stems of this groundcover will spread and create a large mat, making it ideal for open slopes, hanging pots, garden borders, and many more. You might notice that the stems are fragile and break off easily, but this can be to your benefit, as these broken stems root remarkably quickly when stuck back into the soil! This makes it simple to spread this plant to other areas of your garden as needed. Plant in full or part sun and in well-draining soil. Cobweb Spiderwort is drought tolerant, but will need some supplemental watering in the worst parts of summer.
