Hairy Ipecac – A rare climbing vine native to India, Taiwan, and Malaysia. Unfortunately this fast-growing tropical is not cold hardy when planted outside in Texas, so we recommend keeping it either as an indoor houseplant (similar to Pothos or Philodendron), or as a patio plant that gets moved inside during the winter. The foliage is dark green and lightly fuzzy, with light green stems that very quickly wind around anything touches. When it is well cared for, it produces small star-shaped flowers that look very similar to the flowers of the beloved Hoya houseplant (in fact, they are in the same family!). Keep out of direct sunlight and give it something to climb upwards on, such as a trellis. It doesn’t need to be watered terribly often, maybe only once a week. When it is thirsty, the leaves will wilt slightly, which is a great indication for watering.
