Yeatesia platystegia

Montell Bractspike – A rare Texas native perennial with suberb drought tolerance and cold hardiness! Upon first glance, the Montell Bractspike appears to be nothing more than an attractive tangled mat of thin stems and leaves, but after closer inspection, you will notice green bracts that host tiny tubular purple flowers. For plant lovers and artists alike, this plant is the perfect practice in observation. Only growing to about 1 foot tall and 2 feet wide, this perennial is perfect for those with small yards or limited planting space. Our best specimen is planted in our North Dry Garden, where it recieves very little irrigation, even through the summer. Additionally, it has proven to be totally bulletproof while unprotected in winter temperatures as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit! A plant as tough as Texas! Plant in full or part sun and in well-draining soil. Water it semi-often until established, and after that it will be reliably drought hardy.
