Spanish Dagger – A beautiful hard leafed Yucca that earned its due to its needle-sharp tips. Growing up to 20 feet in the wild (but often closer to 10 feet in cultivated gardens), it is truly a spectacle to behold. The leaves are green to blue and thick, growing all the way down the trunk and giving it a porcupine-like appearance. In mid spring, the flower stalk emerges from the center of the plant, with wine-red flower buds that open up to a creamy white. This Trans-Pecos native is extremely drought tolerant and cold hardy, withstanding temperatures as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit without damage. Plant in full sun and in very well-draining soil. We also recommend planting this away from walking paths or anywhere where people/pets could get close to it, as the razor sharp tips have a habit of stabbing those who get too close!
