La Bufa Rosa Rain Lily – A showstopping pink rain lily discovered by John Fairey and Carl Schoenfeld in 1990 in Tamaulipas, Mexico. John admired this plant so much that he actually collected it on several more expeditions through the years in 1992, 1993, and 2003. Today, 'La Bufa Rosa' lives on in multiple areas of the Garden, most notably in our Pool Plaza where it has created a large colony that blooms prolifically. Rain lilies get their name because they only bloom after a deep summer rain, ignited by the change in barometric pressure and the increased amount of nitrogen within rainwater. 'La Bufa Rosa' is especially notable for the size of the flowers (each about 4" wide) and the delicate pink/white color. Plant in part sun and in well-draining soil. Thanks to the bulb beneath the surface, 'La Bufa Rosa' can live through extended periods of drought, although you may notice the foliage falling off in this scenario.
